Andrew Montgomery grew up in Jackson, Wyoming, where his father ran a horseback hunting and camping business, though not too successful. When Drew was ten, his mother became involved with John Montgomery's business partner. She ran off with Scott Mickelson, but not before dumping Drew at his grandmothers and cleaning out the family and business bank accounts.

Things were tough after that. John took to drink. His business suffered. He never could believe Rosemary would leave him without reason. As he fell deeper and deeper into black anger and despair, he focused on Drew. He must be the culprit. He was always apologetic after he'd been drunk and whaled on his son. Crying and pleading only seemed to make things worse. Drew learned to conceal his true feelings. He ran away when he was sixteen.

And wound up working the ski bunny circuit. That's what his buddy, Wil Petersen, called it at any rate. Lots of rich, lonely women whiling away their time while their boyfriends broke bones on the slopes. They had money to spend on anyone who could show them a good time, which Drew could...in spades. From there, he met other charlatans and drifter. They approved of Drew's "clean cut" good looks. He worked every angle. He never felt bad about swindling. Every mark he ever took money from thought he was the one conning money out of poor, innocent Drew.

Over the years, he worked all over the northern states and Great Plains, from the Grand Tetons to the Ozarks, from the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi, North and South, right and left coasts. He even kicked around in Europe a bit, but always found his way back to his roots.. He had a bad patch with drink, just like his dad, but watching your partner get blown away by a .357 magnum. Brain matter flying in your mouth has a way of sobering your outlook. Wil had always wanted him to stop guzzling the booze. It was hard, but Drew dried out. Probably saved his life.

At least he was sober when he ran the con on the wrong mark. Once where there'd been five--Straight Up Mike, Kid Twist, Dasher, Sweet Molly Malone and Three Card Monty--there was only one, a walking dead man. Monty wound up with over five million dollars in heroin instead of cash. He started to run and never looked back. He followed a rumor of a rumor of a rumor and somehow wound up with the Clubs.

He's still looking over his shoulder.

Drew's a lover, not a fighter. Oh, he can fight tough and hard if he has to and knows a lot of dirty tricks, but that's street fighting, not formal training. He can shoot both rifles and shotguns with great accuracy. He's not as comfortable with handguns even if he did work as an actor in a Wild West Show that one time in South Dakota. He really, really, REALLY doesn't like pain. He can keep his mouth shut, but he'll whine and moan and try to garner sympathy if he gets hurt. He's a big baby. Besides, he likes the attention almost as much as he loves the ladies.
